The Third Day of Christmas
On the third day of Christmas, my true love gave to me...
More funny picture books! Yay!
The first book, I Don't Want to Be a Pea, by Ann Bonwill, is about a hippo and a bird trying to get dressed for the hippo-bird fancy dress party. It's a story about how even the best of friends argue, and how maybe there are some things you should keep to yourself (it's not nice to tell someone they look like a blobby grey rock...even if they are a blobby grey hippo), and about finding compromises that make everyone feel happy in the end.
The second, The Boy Who Cried Ninja, by Alex Latimer, came out last year but I didn't see it until a month ago! Where has it been hiding? This is a twist on the Boy Who Cried Wolf- the boy in this book decides to lie about all the real cause of the missing and broken items around the house because he always gets in trouble when he tells the truth- that a ninja, giant squid, and time traveling monkey, among others, are all to blame. There are plenty of visual jokes for grownups in the illustrations, and the story will feel familiar to both adults and children.
Here's some more books that we're looking forward to reading and laughing with in 2013!:
The Day the Crayons Quit
The Hueys in It Wasn't Me
The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place: The Interrupted Tale
