Dance Friday!

Finally I remembered to post a Dance Friday video on Friday!  It has been a crazy summer and it is winding down.  Actually, I am pretty excited to start school.  I guess I'm one of those people who just loves their job.  Don't get me wrong, I love my summer vacation, but I am a pretty lucky person in that I love what I do.

Anyway, I am on the verge of finding really great books and dancing videos but haven't found the perfect one.  In the meantime, here is a little throwback.  It is pouring rain here in my beautiful city and I'm about to pull on some rain boots and get my walk on to the Children's Literature Institute!  This is also why you are getting your dance video early, I will be gone allllll day.

So. Nancy Sinatra.  Boots.  Yep.  Get your shimmy on!

Caught the Love Bug

Well, I did it!  I finished all the books for my Love Letters institute.  I don't know if it is the books or what, but I have fallen head over heels in love...with my home!  I have loved every place I lived, and I definitely knew I was going to be happy being in Boston, but I got it bad for my city!  Maybe this is just the honeymoon phase.  I mean, I haven't been through a winter yet but I am blissfully pulling my soggy bones through this humidity so it seems like I'm hooked.

I've neglected this blog, and Dance Friday, because I have been a busy little bee.  So, to make up for it, here is a video that will get your feet tapping this morning as well as what has been keeping me so darn busy! I will update on all the reading I've done later in the week.

Running along the Charles, that is, of course,
when it is not 99 degrees

Taking the T, my new "wheels", which I love
but it takes me longer to get places!

Brattle Book Shop, read about its
amazing history here

Inside the shop. I snagged some amazing swag!

Outside the Box, free 9 day festival in the heart of Boston
This group, Australia's Strange Fruit, was beautiful

The biggest, most beautiful bubbles I've ever seen

A city, proud and not afraid to show it

I took some time to honor

And feel the love

Berklee Gospel and Roots Choir, gave me goosebumps

Floorlords Crew, representing hip hop in the best way

When I don't take the T I try to walk home.
This is my commute...I mean, why not!?!

All my stuff arrived from LA!

Mom came for a visit and we went to Oleana...amazing, delicious food

Then we went to Shakespeare in the Park!

Happy Alice's Day!

Happy Fourth of July!  It is also Alice's Day.  Alice's Day celebrates the day that Charles Dodgson (Lewis Carrol) took a young girl named Alice and her sister's on a boat ride.  While out there, he told them a little story to keep everyone amused, which later became Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.  Since this blog is named after the young lady, I feel like it is pretty important that I celebrate this every year.

Last year I posted a little bit of the history about the story. Check it out!

Have a great day celebrating the 4th...and make sure to add a little nonsense in honor of Alice as well!

This bitmap, taken from, crams all
the words of the story into one image of Alice.  Pretty spectacular!

July Events

Look for these signs to indicate
a bookstore participating in
the local Where's Waldo events!
We are steadily rolling through the summer now and with it the weather has continued to stay wacky.  When I left LA it was a beautiful 75ish and sunny.  Now, they are having a heat wave in the triple digits.  Buffalo has been rainy mostly, with a couple of sunshine breaks.  Boston, I've been keeping an eye on you but I'll wait until I get there to see if I'm ready for the change.

Generally summer time also means less literary events at bookstores.  However, we have a few for you to check out.  Last year many bookstores started a tradition of celebrating Waldo's birthday with week long "Where's Waldo" events. Starting this week you can look for these events at your bookstore! So whether you are donning rain boots or sun dresses, grab your gear and head out to support these fantastic independent bookstores!
