Cool Things

 We are one week away from Halloween and I still have a bit left to do on our marching band costumes. I'm going to finish that this weekend. We are also having a birthday celebration for my nephew Nate who would be 16 years old this year. I hope you have a great weekend! Here are some cool things.

1. Not sure what to do for a Halloween costume? My favorites are always inspired by children's books. Here's a list from 2013 that has some fun ideas. I'm a fan of the Harold and the Purple Crayon costume.

2. Speaking of Halloween, that list up there doesn't offer much in terms of diversity, does it? If you are looking to diversify your Halloween reading list, here's one from Feminist Books for Kids. 

3. Are you going to see the new adaptation of The Witches with Anne Hathaway? I loved the book and the original movie - even if it super creeped me out. Here's one review that says don't waste your time. It is an interesting perspective on how the new movie looks at racism, and ignores it altogether. 

"What does it mean that a boy would rather be a mouse than a boy in America? There’s a question ripe for exploration — but The Witches doesn’t think to ask it, let alone suggest an answer."

Even more, it dives into the celebration of an author who I certainly wouldn't look up to today. Hmm, maybe I'll skip this move? What are your thoughts?
