Guest Reviewer - Joel
Joel, one of these students, has sent me lots of great book recommendations. It has been fun to keep our book conversations going. Last month he suggested I read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. I gladly picked it up and read it on my plane ride back from Rome. He was right, it is great! I also discovered that the author was only 15 when she started writing the book. What an inspiration! So, I asked Joel if he would be willing to write a review for the book and he did! I am thrilled, proud, and ecstatic to post Joel's review of his favorite book. And this is an invitation to any other former students who would like to make recommendations, send 'em my way! (And thanks Joel, I will be adding The Book Thief to my list!)
Outsiders Review
by Joel
“The Outsiders” is a brilliantly crafted piece of writing by S.E Hinton. It is the story of friendship, gang life, and believing. Ponyboy Curtis lives with his two brothers and his gang on the east side. Often bullied by socs (socials), they are forced to walk in groups. Then the day comes when Ponyboy and other gang member Johnny are jumped by a group of socs. This time someone takes it too far.
It is my favorite book of all time. It changed the way I think about some things and made me realize just how lucky I am. I have read it 6 times and always cry at the same part. Each time I have noticed something new and it continues to enlighten the way I think. If you want to read the most brilliantly written story of all time, then read “The Outsiders.”
