Cool Things
One full week of 2021 done! This time last year we still had no idea what was coming for us. With this week's events unfolding in a dramatic, and sadly expected way, it seems like 2021 could already use a jumpstart. We are all responsible for being better, for making this world better, and for taking care of ourselves. When you need a break for self-care, here are some cool things.

As you read earlier this week, one of my goals is to join a writing group. I've started with a virtual "group." Every year Tara Lazar hosts a Storystorm in January. It is 30 days of blog posts from guest authors and other folks in the publishing industry. The goal is to inspire you to come up with at least one picture book story idea each day in the month of January. If you register, you are eligible to win some cool prizes - like having someone take a look at one of your books and give you feedback! Sadly, the registration is past due. However, all is not lost! Last year I discovered this cool space after the deadline and I still followed along, caught up, and got some cool ideas. I just missed out on opportunities for prizes. So if you need some motivation to get that book going, check out the introduction page here.
For creative folks, the gap between having good taste and doing good work.
Maria Popova, of the amazing Brain Pickings, writes often about children's literature. She just wrote her own children's book!
Author/illustrator Jon Klassen has some amazing goods with designs from his most beloved children's books. Find them here!
Jon Klassen has also started a collaboration WITH HIS MOM! They are making handmade felt pennants. Just take all my money.
