I Spy... A Child's Garden of Verses Version
After I posted my last I Spy, finding the dab in Mike Mulligan, longtime friend and parent of a former student, Peter, texted me with what might be the oldest dab in a children's book!
He is in possession of his grandmother's copy of A Child's Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson. This version was published in 1909. Check out this illustration that accompanies a page of "To My Name - Child."
Not all versions of A Child's Garden of Verses have the same illustrator, however, being published in 1909, and Mike Mulligan published in 1939, makes the illustrator of the 1909 publishing the current winner!
Bonus: Project Gutenburg has posted multiple versions of A Child's Garden of Verses. To check it out, click here.
Now, the the task is on to find the oldest dab in a children's book! I'll keep my eyes peeled but if you find any dabs popping up as you read, send them my way!
