Books with a Soundtrack: When the Beat Was Born: DJ Kool Herc and the Creation of Hip Hop
Have you ever read a book that made you want to listen to music as well? This happens to me all the time. When Oscar and I read books together that mention specific songs or artists, I like to play that music so Oscar expands his repertoire. I am a fan of all music so it is a fun, easy way to expand my own tastes as well.
We read the book When the Beat Was Born: DJ Kool Herc and the Creation of Hip Hop by Laban Carrik Hill and illustrated by Theodore Taylor. Then Oscar and I put on some old school hip hop. Our favorite song to listen to was, of course, "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugar Hill Gang. Our feet got that hip, hop, hippie to the hippie to the hip hip-hop. If you pick up this book, I recommend this song for you too!

Bonus: If you are looking for more books and soundtracks, I have one for you! Recently, Barack Obama released his latest book, A Promised Land. He also created a playlist to go along with it! Great minds think alike!
