Another Dab - Old Man Whickutt's Donkey
In my continued mission of finding signature dance moves in books, I have found another precious gem. First, if you haven't read Old Man Whickutt's Donkey by Mary Calhoun and illustrated by Tomie dePaola, get online and see if you can find a copy right away. This story reads as if you were sitting on the porch of some old timer down south. With fun phrases like, "Derned if you I do, derned if you I don't" adults will enjoy it just as much as kids do. (Thanks for the fix, Marcus!) A warning though, the book is a bit of a tongue twister. The book was gifted to me by my best friend and we LOVE it.
After reading for about the 100th time, I realized I'd passed by a hidden "dab." Check out the sweet moves of the miller as the donkey and boy are being thrown over his head. While it doesn't win the prize for the oldest dab, this certainly is a fun one!
Derned if I do and derned if I don't!
